SPAY & NEUTER
SNKC CAN HELP! |
Considering the current situation, MPR does NOT support show breeding, backyard breeding, "game breeding", or ANY form of Pit Bull breeding. Pit Bulls are overflowing and being destroyed in area shelters - There is NO excuse to add more to an already over-saturated market.

Jujube |
|
|
| About 8 weeks old female puppy, rescued from a difficult situation. Anise is fostered in home with several kids and dogs. Calm puppy, sweet and easy. Mom is a sweet blue pit bull. Don't know dad. |
Found as a stray, emaciated and all alone in the city, Krypto-The-Superdog is now safe in our program. Sadly he is HW positive. Even if you can't adopt, you can still help him by donating for his treatment. |
Jujube was adopted from MPR as a puppy two years ago. She is now losing her family due to them moving. Jujube grew up with other dogs and is a sweet and very well behaved little lady. Currently fostered with several kids and dogs. |
Dragonfly is now safe in our program! Thanks to a generous donation made to pay boarding for a month. She is still in need of regular sponsors and foster home. She is 4 months old, outgoing and spirited little female. |
Eli came to us from Fair Grove, Missouri, about 25 miles northeast of Springfield. He had roamed onto a couples rural property where he was in grave danger of being shot. MPR was contacted and Eli is now safe in the program. |
| FOSTER HOMES NEEDED August 2008 |
|
|
|
URGENT PLEA!!!!
MPR needs YOUR help in providing a FOSTER HOME for these two cherished pets. Sadly, their owner recently passed away and the surviving owner is not well enough right now to take care of them. The dogs have been cherished pets for six years and will NOT do well in boarding. MPR does not have any available foster homes for them to go to. Ideally, we'd like to see them placed into a foster home together.
Can YOU open your heart and home to help please ... |
DESPERATELY NEEDED!!!
MORE FOSTER HOMES.....
The dogs below are in boarding and in desperate need of foster care. Not only is boarding very expensive, but living in a cage is hard for any dog as sociable as a Pit Bull. Can you imagine for just a moment just how difficult it is being in a cage day in and day out when you once were a loving family pet? PLEASE open your heart and home for one of the sweethearts you see below. They desperately need YOU!
Each dog in boarding costs about $220.00
a month
Our Boarding Dogs |

As it is, we can't help anymore dogs until our boarding dogs are in foster care. MPR doesn't believe in long term boarding for the dogs in the program. We need to find foster homes for the boarding dogs before we can save more lives.....

Choosing dogs to bring into Missouri Pit Bull Rescue is a daunting task. There are far more out there needing to be rescued than we could ever have room for. This means we have to pick and choose those that we think will be best for our program. We choose dogs based on various criteria, including first and foremost good temperament.
Then of course there is looks, age, medical issues, ability to get along with other dogs/cats etc... Now we know that "flashy" dogs will always be popular and we are able to place those good looking blue, white or otherwise attractive dogs fairly quickly. It would be very easy for us to fill our rescue with only eye-catching dogs. But that isn't what we are about.
There are also thousands of other kinds of "pit bulls" that need homes too. Those that are simply brown, black or maybe brindle. Those that bear the scars of being forced to fight or survive on their own in the streets. Dogs that perhaps would do best as an only dog or who might need to be on a crate and rotate. We don't turn these dogs away simply because they might be harder to place. These dogs have the same love in their heart and deserve the chance to be loved in return.
Please take a look at these dogs and consider opening your house and heart to them.

| Santa Rosa County, CA - Man gets 15 years for breeding fighting dogs - A judge sentenced a Milton man to 15 years in state prison Friday after a jury found him guilty of raising pit bulls used in illegal dog fights. The state charged Raymond Eugene Teamer, 42, with 35 counts of training or baiting animals for fighting and two counts of processing or selling dog fighting equipment. All the charges are third-degree felonies. |
| Mutts decoded - DNA tests sort out canine family history - For mutt owners, the guessing game has come to an end. Science has stepped in with the answer to the elusive question "What kind of dog is that?"
New DNA tests, which range in cost from $55 to $200, promise to identify the breeds present in a dog's genetic soup. Billed as a way to satisfy curiosity and to help veterinarians watch out for breed-specific ailments, the tests are also providing a dose of humility for animal specialists who now realize how bad they have been at guessing a dog's breed mix. |

Puppies of hero pit bull Booger are world's first commercial clones - A dog is not just for Christmas, or even for life. If you've got the cash, it could be for eternity.
South Korean bio technologists have engineered a pet resurrection that, until recently, seemed commercially impossible: they have reunited a Californian woman with her dearest friend - or, at least, genetic copies derived from the frozen remains of his ear.
More than £25,000 the poorer but weeping with joy, Bernann McKinney, 57, became the world's first paying customer yesterday in the strange new industry of canine cloning. |
ANIMAL WITNESS: THE MICHAEL VICK CASE - In the kickoff to a brand new series ANIMAL WITNESS, Animal Planet presents THE MICHAEL VICK CASE, premiering Sunday, August 24, at 10 PM, a one-hour special that tells the full, wrenching story of the Michael Vick case. The investigative report gives an in-depth report on Michael Vick, the law enforcement officers who broke the case and the dogs who were traumatized in the horrific dog fighting scenario and their miraculous recovery.
In this special, Animal Planet exposes the brutal sport of dog fighting and spotlights the incredible rehabilitation of Vick's dogs under the care of some very dedicated dog lovers. Viewers will witness rare underground dog fighting videos and also see interviews with two of Vick's boyhood mentors. ANIMAL WITNESS: THE MICHAEL VICK CASE challenges the misconceptions about pit bulls and shows viewers that vicious, fighting dogs can be transformed into lovable family pets. |
Verizon Succumbs to Pressure to Pull Pit-Bull Ad -- Verizon Wireless is the latest marketer to yank an ad deemed offensive, in what has become a minor trend of marketers caving to pressure from advocacy groups. The ad, a 30-second spot from Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann Erickson for the LG Dare phone, depicts two ferocious pit bulls barking at a young man who climbed a junkyard fence in the hope of touching the phone. The dogs lunge at the man, but are cut short by their heavy chains.
Animal-rights groups slammed the commercial as promoting animal cruelty, arguing that chained dogs are deprived of social interaction and forced to endure weather extremes, adding that the spot perpetuated stereotypes against pit bulls as a violent breed. |

| Lawyers aren't ready to drop challenge to Denver ban - A ruling by U.S. District Judge Walker Miller dismissing a challenge to Denver's pit bull ban has been appealed to the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. In the appeal, lawyers for the American Kennel Club, acting on behalf of Sonya Dias, claim that the Denver ordinance, enacted almost two decades ago, is based on a stereotype — that if a dog is a so-called "pit bull," or even resembles a "pit bull" in some physical respects, it must be vicious and dangerous. "Like almost all stereotypes, this one is false. It is utterly irrational to classify dogs as dangerous based merely on their physical appearance," said the appeal. |
| How to let kids pet your dog - As we all know there can be some danger in having a child approach a strange dog and pet it. The Victor Valley Daily Press has a good story on ways to teach kids to pet appropriately as well as warning signs to be wary of. |
| Health Department issues heat advisory - During this time of extreme heat please remember your pets need to keep cool too. Whether you're indoors or out, both you and your pet need access to lots of fresh water during the summer, so check his or her water bowl several times a day to be sure it's full. Don't leave your dog in a parked car or outside unsupervised for long periods of time. When your dog is outdoors, he or she needs shade and plenty of water.
You can freeze water bottles full of water and put them where he or she lies to keep them cool. And watch for signs of heatstroke. If your dog is panting, has a staring or anxious expression, does not obey commands, has warm, dry skin, a high fever, and a rapid heartbeat or is vomiting, lower his or her body temperature quickly with cool water--either by immersion or by spraying thoroughly with a garden hose--and call your veterinarian immediately. |

Omaha, Nebraska - Omaha Won't Ban Pit Bulls - Mayor Mike Fahey has decided not to ban pit bulls.
Instead the city is planning to go after what are known as "potentially dangerous animals" trying to stop dog attacks before they start.
Potentially dangerous animals include all pit bulls, and any breed that injures, chases, or acts menacing. Judy Varner is the Executive Director of the Humane Society, "These are dogs who haven't bit yet, these are dogs who are showing the propensity to bite."
Any dog labeled as potentially dangerous wouldn't be allowed out, unless it's on a short leash and muzzled. |
Omaha, Nebraska - Humane Society Wants Public's Help To Mark Aggressive Dogs - First Public Hearing On Proposal Is Sept. 9 - While trying to define his plan for a proposal covering the city's dangerous dogs, Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey said he was initially leaning toward a complete ban.
But the new restrictions may actually be more aggressive, according to the Humane Society. One of the more aggressive facets of the proposal is the dangerous label applied to any dog who acts aggressively, even if it hasn't bitten yet. According to the proposal, a dog can be labeled dangerous when it acts overly aggressive in public or approaches people with an apparent attack attitude.
The Humane Society counts on the public to report such incidents. |
Greenwood, AR - City Talks Animal Control - Greenwood officials spent about an hour Monday night discussing animal control needs with residents, then adjourned the study meeting with a promise of another sometime next week. By the end of the meeting, most city officials and attending residents agreed they wanted an ordinance that dealt with vicious dogs, but not a breed-specific ordinance. |
Grand Island, Nebraska - Animal Advisory Board: No dog breed ban in Grand Island - While the Nebraska cities of Osceola and Minden have added dog breed bans to their city laws this summer, Grand Island will not pursue such a ban. The Animal Advisory Board met on Monday and was adamant that a ban on any dog breed not become a part of the Grand Island city code. |
Minden, Nebraska - clarifies its pit bull ban - The city council has defined what it means to be a "pit bull" in Minden. The new ordinance defines pit bulls as any of the dogs "commonly referred to" as pit bull dog, the American pit bull terrier and American Staffordshire terrier. |
Hall County, Nebraska - Hall County looks into pit bull ban - A growing number of Nebraska cities are considering bans on pit bulls. Osceola has one. Hastings, Holdrege, and Omaha are all looking into it. Could Hall County be next?
... Pit bull owners News 5 has spoken to in the last few weeks all say if a pit bull ban ever went into effect, they would actually move to a different city. Please send your polite and respectful opposition to breed specific legislation to the Board of Supervisors through the board assistant, Stacey Ruzika at staceyr@hallcountyne.gov or 308-385-5093 or via the Hall County Clerk. Please encourage the Board to strengthen their current ordinances and focus on irresponsible dog owners - not particular breeds of dogs. |
Greenwood, Arkansas - Greenwood Officials Drafting New Pet Laws - The city of Greenwood soon will be discussing proposed changes to it's pet ordinance. One provision calls for the ban of all pit bulls within city limits. |
Ralston, NE - Pit bulls in Ralston can breathe easier - The city has shelved talk of banning the controversial dogs. City Attorney Mark Klinker said that after Ralston talked of prohibiting the breed, City Hall received a barrage of public feedback, the majority of which urged the city to not ban a specific breed of dog. Mayor Don Groesser said the matter would not be on future City Council agendas. "I see no reason to bring it back,'' he said. |
Missouri - HB 1777 Neglect is Abuse, Too - HB 1777 will make it easier to prosecute animal abusers. Current law demands that "substantial harm" must be done to an animal before a perpetrator can be found guilty of animal neglect. This requirement makes it very difficult to prosecute starvation cases. However, HB 1777 provides that a custodian and/or owner of an animal is guilty of animal neglect if he or she negligently fails to provide adequate care or adequate control. | Missouri - SB 819 Increases Penalties for Dog Fighting - Update, 3/06/08 - This bill was passed out of the Senate Judiciary committee on Monday, March 3, 2008. It has not yet been placed on the Senate calendar for a vote. SB 819 would give the Show Me State stiffer laws against dog fighting. The bill, sponsored by Senator Scott Rupp, would add dog fighting to the list of offenses that are subject to the Criminal Activity Forfeiture Act. It would increase the penalty for being a spectator at a dog fighting event, and allow law enforcement officers making a lawful seizure to take possession of dogs and property used in the violation. This bill is pending in the Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. Click HERE for more information. |
| Missouri - SB 886 Regulates the Dog, Not the Breed - Anti-BSL bill heard in Senate (Missouri). Sen. Jolie Justus, a Kansas City Democrat, presented a bill in committee that would prohibit cities from adopting breed-specific dangerous-dog ordinances. If approved, Justus' bill would void all previous ordinances and prohibit any new ones from discriminating by breed. Click HERE for more information. |

Lollapalooza Lola |
Meet our very entertaining Miss Lola. Quite the showgirl indeed. Lola has so much personality and so many expressions. She smiles to greet you and her charm is impossible to resist. In case you're wondering ... Lollapalooza means admirable or remarkable and that's just what we all think she is!
Lola lost her home recently because of personality conflicts with another dog in home. We're not sure what caused the discord between the dogs, and which of the two initiated the hostilities, but at this point we feel that Lola might do better as an only pet. That said, she could perhaps share her home with a friendly male if the owners are very pit savvy and know how to establish leadership and provide good supervision.
Lola has lived with children all her life, including toddlers. She does very good with them. In fact, she lights up when little ones are around and you can see a genuine love for children in her eyes.
Very fun-loving gal, comical personality, Lola can be a real goofball at times and a sweet cuddle bug the next minute. Typical Pit Bull! Lola has a real love for life and while she has playful moments, she is not a hyper dog. In fact, she's quite the couch potato most of the time. |
|
| Coming home when you have a dog like Lola to greet you will erase any bad day you might have had. This happy girl is a moral booster. Lola will cheer you up and sooner than you know, you'll be on your way to a walk in the woods or a trip to Petco, or simply a well deserved nap on the couch, with Miss Lola all cuddled up in your arms... Can life be any better? |

Kelly and Prophett Strother |
|
Wow! What a dynamic duo these two are! They began volunteering for MPR as a foster home and are currently fostering Xander.
The depth of their caring and commitment is evident in the things they do for MPR! They are always there and willing to help where there is the most need. Some of their activities are, but not limited to: fostering, attending training sessions with their foster dog, organizing and attending events, providing home baked dog treats to raise money, and lets not forget the delicious Hot Dogs that Prophet grills for people coming to meet our dogs at events. If that wasn't enough, these two have also provided a pool for Harmony's much needed hydrotherapy sessions as she heals from hip surgery.
Kelly and Prophett 's caring, hard work and commitment are such an asset to MPR and we are so very fortunate and thankful to have them both on board. You guys ROCK!!!

Happy Fiona
We recently adopted little Miss Fiona from you guys. She is one of the greatest dogs ever. Fiona and our male boxer Diesel are awesome together. The instant they met they started playing and kissing even through the kennels when we were letting them figure each other out. She definitely wears the pants in their relationship and Diesel just goes along with whatever like a love sick puppy (he even gave her his dog bed)!
We were a little nervous about the neighbors reactions to her, but so far there haven't been any rude comments, only questions and compliments on what a pretty girl she is. My mom, who is generally anti-fight breeds, instantly fell for her; mostly due to her little oinks she does when she wants to give kisses!
Basically, we just wanted to let you all know what an amazing dog you have given us the opportunity to own. She will be much loved!

| Adorable Ella Mae |

|

|
Hi Amy! I just wanted to thank you again for taking the time to chat with me about EllaMae. I took her to Tomahawk Animal Hospital and they were great - but had no idea what was going on with EllaMae. He also recommended Dr. Senter, the doggie dermatologist at Mission MedVet. We saw Dr. Senter this week and were surprised to learn Ella has some nasty chiggers and basically Pibble Patterned Baldness! Common in Staffies. Who knew? So our sweet girl may never have hair on her underbelly but she doesn't seem to care! I attached a couple of pictures. I just can't thank MPR enough for our little girl! ~ Amy Kincaid
