      Adoption Information

Remember, when you adopt a dog from MPR it makes room in our program to save another dog...

MPR dogs are bailed out of shelters or taken from difficult situations and placed in private foster homes where they spend several weeks, and sometimes months, waiting for the "right" home. MPR believes it is important to match the right dog with the right owner and we keep the dogs as long as it takes to find their perfect family. While in foster care, the dogs are thoroughly evaluated, socialized, housetrained, crate-trained, etc.

Note that an evaluation is not a guarantee of the dog's future behavior. The evaluation allows us to determine how the dog behaves when introduced to certain situations while in foster care, and gives us a good idea of his/her personality. Click Here for more information.

When our foster homes are full, we keep a few more dogs at local boarding facilities. These dogs will be transferred to a foster home as soon as we have an opening. In the meantime they are kept in comfortable kennels, exercised in play-yards everyday, socialized, and well cared for by our volunteers.

MPR needs help. If you would like to help a dog but cannot adopt or foster, donating for their care will save their life. We can't do it alone. Please click here for more information.

MPR DOGS ARE SPAYED AND NEUTERED PRIOR TO ADOPTION

          Adoption Restrictions

Because of their important fighting background, we do not make same sex-placements or place Pit Bulls in multiple dog homes. We might place a Pit Bull in a home with a compatible dog of the opposite sex, but we ask our adopters to follow certain safety measures - Never leave the dogs unsupervised, always monitor roughhousing, avoid triggers that could cause conflicts such as bones, toys, etc. We also ask that the dogs we place not be taken to dog parks. For more information about Pit Bull dogs, please read MPR's Breed's Overview .

    Meeting you

MPR group does a homecheck before placing a dog in a new home. The goal of the home visit is not only to see where our protégés will live, but also to give our adopters a chance to get to know us better. We like to develop a good relationship with people who adopt a dog from us and to provide breed education prior to our placements. Meeting with everyone in the family facilitates this exchange. Our homechecks are not intrusive. The most important thing for us is to know that our dogs are going in safe and caring homes, and that all the members of the family are well informed and prepared for a life long commitment with their new companion. For more info about this, please review our "Adoption Guidelines"
