We did not know his name. He was filthy, emaciated and suffering
from severe injuries. Someone witnessed a man stomping on
this puppy, and called 911. The puppy eventually found his
way into rescue.
His
owner did not have time for the puppy so he put him on a
heavy chain. He had not been given much food, if any at
all, in the past few weeks. The pup was rescued and brought
to Dr.
Craig Tockman's office in Chesterfield, where he
received emergency medical attention.
X-rays
were taken; He has a broken jaw, broken hip and one broken
rib. The vet also determined that not only did he have fairly
new injuries, but he also has old injuries, partially healed.
This tiny puppy, only two months old, has not had the life
he deserves.
The
cuts on his head are from being attacked by a larger labrador
dog that lived in the same trailer park.
We
named him "Caleb". "Caleb" is an old
Hebrew name that means a person of power, a will to live.
We felt that this fit our poor puppy very well, as he has
shown an astonishing will to hold on and survive.
This
poor baby has been through so very much in his short life...
a little bit of medical care and a lot of love will see
him put right in no time. A donation in Caleb's name will
help us pay his medical bills, and support him while he
recovers. Currently, the estimated total on Caleb's vet
bills comes to over $1,000.
If
you wish to sponsor Caleb, please contact
us. You will receive periodic updates on his progress,
your name will be posted on this page, and we will make
sure to tell him how many guardian angels he has pulling
for him!

Caleb
is doing better. He had jaw surgery the other day, to repair
the broken bone, and the swelling in his jaw has gone down.
We are waiting for him to regain strength for his next surgery
on his hip. The broken rib will heal on its on.
Caleb
actually can wag his tail now! He is giving kisses to all
the vets and vet techs... and Caleb is very attached to
Dr. Tockman.
Dr.
Tockman thinks he might be ready for the next round on surgery
on Thursday.

As
of Monday the 10th, Caleb had gained 3/4 of a lb. he is
slowly getting his strength back. He is still weak. Dr.
Tockman was hoping to do surgery on his hip today, however
he elected not to, he wants Caleb stronger. His appetite
is fantastic, this boy likes to eat. even with his jaw so
sore, his drive for food and strive for life is not letting
him give in.
**Update**

I
went to visit Caleb today. He is looking so much better!
He is alert and active, and has a stuffed duck that he carries
around with him everywhere he goes. The duck is almost as
big as he is! His jaw is still a bit swollen, but it doesn't
seem to bother him. He is putting on weight, and just loves
attention.
