HOLLYWOOD
– Police on Friday said they arrested a man on animal
cruelty charges after he used a sword to punish a pit bull dog
and its pup for messing in the house.
The original
animal cruelty complaint was filed on Wednesday morning by an
anonymous caller, according to Detective Carlos Negron, police
spokesman. When officer's arrived at a home on the 7300 block
of Hayes Street, Michael Garner met them and said he was the
owner of the dogs and said they were attacked by his father.
Garner
told police that he had to rush the 3-year-old pit bull and
her 9 week old puppy to an animal hospital because his father
had stabbed them with a sword.
Negron said
officers quickly located Vernon Garner, who told them he was
angry because the dogs defecated and urinated inside the house.
He said he entered the room where the dogs were staying, armed
with a sword, and reached under the bed where they were hiding
and began to swat and stab the dogs.
Both animals
suffered numerous injuries, police said.
Vernon Garner
was arrested on two counts of animal cruelty and booked into
the county jail.
