PIT BULL PUPPY FOUND BRUTALLY INJURED AND TIED TO A TREE Animal Control Officers were called out last night to pick up a 2-month-old pit bull puppy that was left tied to a tree in Encanto after his ears were cut off. The puppy was found in the 6800 block of Benson Avenue. The officer who responded to the call said it appeared someone tried to do a home ear-cropping job on the puppys ears, with disastrous results. There was nothing left of the ears but two bloody ear holes, and the ear-cropping appears to have been done the same day the puppy was abandoned. Animal Control transported the puppy to the Mission Valley Emergency Animal Clinic where he was treated for his injuries. The puppy is now at the South County Animal Shelter in Bonita, where the staff has named him Vincent. "Our medical care division will continue to provide medical support for this puppy while he heals," said Dr. Dena Mangiamele, Director of Animal Control. "Our law enforcement division will pursue any leads pertaining to the individuals who participated in this act of animal cruelty." Despite the seriousness of his wounds, Vincent is described as sweet and playful. He will not be released until he is in stable condition and the infection around his ears is under control. The Department of Animal Control welcomes any information that could lead to the owner of this puppy, or whoever is responsible for his injuries. Anyone with information about this case, or any case involving animal cruelty, is encouraged to call (619) 236-2341. North County residents can call (760) 438-1460. |
